KNOPPIX is a DEBIAN Linux release on a single CD and can be run standalone with the CD
or it can be permanently installed to your hard drive and replace your windows virus laden PC.

We are a point now where so much software has been created for Linux that we are hard pressed
to find a need for using windows software anymore.
If you are like most PC users you do not use anything more than the web browser and email and perhaps some word processing.
There is a boatload more software included in the KNOPPIX CD
AND there are a thousand free software repository programs available for download.
My kids like to use AOL Instant Messaging and thats included in KNOPPIX.

The free software ranges from office products to APACHE web server and MYSQL database and
a ton of games.

Linux starts up and has a graphical user interface, a GUI, pronounced GUUUUUEEEEEE.


It looks a lot like any microsoft windows GUI with icons and menu travel controls as
buttons on the bottom of the screen that present pop up menus when you mouse over and click them.


You can look around your PC hard drive with Konquerer which is much the same as microsoft EXPLORER


You can surf the internet with MOZILLA web browser.
Note that Mozilla is made by the people who made NETSCAPE so if you liked NETSCAPE you will already know how to use MOZILLA.

There are office types of software like WORD for WINDOWS and EXCEL spreadsheets and ACCESS.



There are graphics programs like PAINT SHOP.

There are music players like WINAMP and there are music recording studios like CAKE WALK
Here I am playing streaming MP3 music on web site SHOUTCAST.COM and recording real time
in AUDACITY.
I will save it to an MP3 file and load it onto a 256 MB MP3 USB music player that cost $30
You can forget spending $300 on an IPOD


Audacity can be used to record and edit multitrack recording like CAKEWALK
